We’re pleased to announce Nick Stepanoff as our new Project Manager, who’ll be overseeing all AHA’s new SDA home community delivery, including development of our Urraween Village community in Hervey Bay, Queensland. With more than 30 years’ experience in construction project management, this passionate father of two enjoys overseeing all aspects of development, then coming home to surf, fish or hang out with his kids.
We chatted with Nick to learn more about this career focused family man and what he’s most looking forward to about his new role with Accessible Homes Australia.
Q. Tell us a little about yourself.
I enjoy a pretty simple but happy life. I live in Coombabah on the Gold Coast, which is perfect for me as it’s only minutes from the water and some of my favourite things to do are boating, fishing, and surfing with my 11-year-old son.
I also have a 16-year-old daughter and just hanging out or going shopping with her is great. When I’m not working, I love spending time with my family. It’s a great way to end a workday.
Q. What made you want to join Accessible Homes Australia as a Project Manager?
AHA actually approached me. I’ve been friends with one of the founders, Jason Doerr, for a long time and he knew I was looking for a new challenge. I enjoy tackling new tasks and bringing the energy to projects I take on, and this role has presented me with an exciting opportunity.
Q. What work will you be involved in?
AHA’s new Hervey Bay project is my main focus at the moment. We are breaking ground this month and right now it’s all about getting everything ready and lined up to start. I’m concentrating on ensuring all the project’s requirements are covered, as well as finalising designs and budgets.
The villas are such an important development for the region with 12 accessible, Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) homes set for construction over the next year and a half. I really look forward to seeing it all come together.
Q. How’s it been working with the AHA team so far?
I’ve been with the team for over a month and, as in any new position, there’s always a period where you’re learning the ropes, but I’ve already received tremendous support from all my new colleagues.
AHA’s Managing Director, Tom Ray, has been very helpful and encouraging. I can’t speak highly enough about him. There is a lot to like about working with this crew.
Q. Apart from work, what are you passionate about?
I’m a firm believer in maintaining a family-work life balance and my kids are a big reason for this. I have time for myself training in martial arts a few nights a week but I really love spending time with my children. As any young boy, my son doesn’t like staying still so we spend a lot of time on the water together but I equally enjoy hanging out with my daughter at home. It’s great to have that balance and spend time on both activities. It brings a good energy to your life.
