Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)
For people in the community with high support needs, securing suitable housing can be a challenge. The Australian Government recognised this and launched Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), a housing provision for eligible NDIS participants.
The NDIS provides financial support through SDA to help people access a permanent home specifically to suit their needs.
The initiative has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for those with living with a disability. As of October 2022, there are over 19,000 participants who have SDA funding in their plans, and over 12,100 of those people actively utilising that funding for an accessible property. This means there is still a projected 10,000 eligible for SDA who haven’t, as yet, received funding, and 7,000 who have received their funding eligibility but are not yet living in an SDA property.
